Formula One (F1) champion Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he underwent a period of self-isolation after he came in contact with celebrities who were later tested positive for coronavirus.

Hamilton attended an event in London earlier this month where he met the likes of actor Idris Elba and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, wife of the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The duo later was diagnosed with coronavirus. Hamilton and Elba even posed together for a picture in the event.

The reigning F1 champion took to social media recently to ensure that he was doing fine as he has shown no symptoms of the pandemic coronavirus.

"I want to let you know that I am doing well. There has been speculation about my health after I was at an event where two people later tested positive for coronavirus."

"I have zero symptoms and it has now been 17 days since I saw Sophie and Idris. I have been in touch with Idris and happy to hear he is OK. I did speak to my doctor and double-checked if I needed to take a test but the truth is, there is a limited amount of tests available and there are people who need it more than I do, especially when I wasn't showing any symptoms at all,” the Mercedes driver said in an official statement.

Hamilton said he had been in isolation since last Friday — just before last weekend's season-opener Australian Grand Prix was canceled because of coronavirus.

The start of the F1 2020 campaign has been delayed due to the same reason with several races either scrapped or postponed. FIA and F1 boards recently had an emergency meeting and the outcome is that they will work on a revised calendar for F1 2020 and reschedule as many of the postponed races as possible.
