  • Nicole Kidman was featured on cover of Vanity Fair's 28th annual Hollywood issue
  • Fans slammed the magazine for trying to "infantalize" the 54-year-old star

Nicole Kidman was recently featured on the coveted cover of Vanity Fair magazine, but thanks to some heavy editing and the choice of outfit, fans of the "Big Little Lies" actor were not happy with the outcome.

The cover, which shows Kidman styled in what some called a schoolgirl outfit by Italian high fashion label Miu Miu, resulted in fans calling out the magazine for trying to "infantalize" the highly talented 54-year-old star.

The excessive photoshop did not go unnoticed either. Fans were quick to notice that Kidman's knee pops out at an odd angle and the line of her left oblique runs just next to her belly button, per ABC News.

The skimpy ensemble complete with knee socks was put together by British stylist Katie Grand, Page Six reported.

“She’s an accomplished actress who’s nominated for an Oscar. Why is she dressed like a schoolgirl [sic]? Not cool,” one commented on Vanity Fair’s Instagram post of the cover, while another wrote, “Would love to hear the concept behind this…cause I don’t get it.”

“Nicole Kidman is incredible but this styling is terrible. I’m shocked she agreed to this,” a third said, while a fourth asked, “Who thought this was a good idea? The mind boggles.”

Even on Twitter, people left comments under the magazine's post, calling them out for the poor choice of outfit. "What is the meaning of this photo of Nicole Kidman? She is always stunning but this looks trashy. I think she is elegant and tasteful but this photo is not. She deserves better," wrote a user.

They also pointed out that the editing and airbrushing done on the image of Kidman was beyond horrible. "How much editing was done to this photo?" one Instagram user asked. "Wow."

The harsh criticism kept pouring in. "This is so badly photoshopped, she looks like a character in an open-world shooter," another disappointed person shared.

While a majority of the comments claimed the outfit and the editing is just incorrigible, some were fans of the actor's risque look. “Haters are gonna hate! Nicole is looking amazing!” one exclaimed on Instagram, while a Twitter user hailed her cover style as “an absolute serve.”

Vanity Fair is yet to comment on the incident.
