Credence (Ezra Miller) has been revealed as a character in “Fantastic Beasts 2,” but it isn’t clear how he’ll be involved in the hunt for Grindelwald. Warner Bros.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” fans are having a great Monday. J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore website disclosed tons of new information about the sequel to last November’s magical hit. One of the most exciting reveals is that Ezra Miller will be back as Credence Barebone in “Fantastic Beasts 2.”

The news might be a shock for many since it looked almost like Credence had been destroyed at the end of the first movie. He was repressing his magic after being raised to hate wizards, so he developed an Obscurus, a dark parasitic force. Most Obscurials die as children. It seemed like Credence’s time was up in the final scenes of “Fantastic Beasts,” but as Pottermore notes, Newt (Eddie Redmayne) saw a “tendril of black matter” escape the train station.

Ezra Miller, who stars as The Flash/Barry Allen in this fall’s “Justice League,” will play the disturbed teenager once again. With any luck, Credence will try to stop repressing his magic and actually use a wand. At least that’s Miller’s hope. The star was an avid Harry Potter fan before landing in Rowling’s second film franchise, and he was vocal about wanting a wand.

“Why?! All I wanted was a wand,” he shouted when asked how he felt about not getting to use a wand during an interview with a German outlet last year. “No. Really, it’s fine. Essentially you take the job you’re given and do the best you can — why wasn’t I given a wand?!”

Will Credence finally gets his wand in “Fantastic Beasts 2”? Fans will have to tune in next year to find out.

Pottermore also revealed that viewers can expect Jacob Kowalski (Dan Folger) in the sequel, which won’t officially be called “Fantastic Beasts 2.” The site warned that Rowling is still working on a title for the flick, which just started shooting in London.

It won’t just be returning faces in the cast, though. The new characters will include bounty hunter Grimmson (Ingvar Sigurdsson), wizard Yusuf Kama (William Nadylam), circus owner Skender (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and a circus performer played by Claudia Kim. Newt’s older brother Theseus Scamander (Callum Turner) will also be introduced.

Plot details have been revealed for the film as well, but it’s not clear how any of these characters will be incorporated. After Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) escapes prison, Dumbledore (Jude Law) joins Newt to take him down. Unfortunately, the villainous wizard’s following has been growing.

Plenty of other characters from the first film will return for Newt’s next adventure. Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) are set to return, and Leta Lestrange’s (Zoë Kravitz) role as an important figure in Newt’s personal history will be expanded. As previously reported, casting directors were searching for teenage versions of Dumbledore, Newt and Leta as well, hinting that audiences will get to explore their pasts.

The movie, which will be directed by David Yates, will take place in 1927, just months after the last film ended. This time, the action won’t be limited to New York. London and Paris will also be visited.

“Fantastic Beasts 2” is set to hit theaters on Nov. 16, 2018.
