A father in India allegedly killed his 6-year-old son in a fit of rage, following an argument with his wife.

The man – identified as Nandan Adhikari – lived in the city of Mumbai with his wife and children, media outlet ANI reported. Nandan and his wife Sunita had a fight Saturday, after which the latter went to drop her 13-year-old daughter at school.

Authorities said Sunita then received a call from her mother-in-law regarding cops at her home. It remains unclear who had informed the cops about the child's death.

When she returned, she found their son, identified only as Lakshya, lying on the floor of the house in a pool of blood. Local police told the media the boy's throat was slit using a sharp object.

The police arrested Nandan as the prime suspect in the case and filed murder charges against him. The child's body was sent to a local hospital for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

During questioning, the accused confessed to committing the crime. He told the police that he and his wife had frequent fights over several issues. The reason behind the fights between Nandan and Sunita was not revealed.

An investigation is currently underway into the incident, Patrika reported. It is not known if the child's mother has been quizzed about the incident.

Other details such as if the murder weapon was found or if there was anyone else in the house at the time of the incident were not revealed.

Last week, a man in New York City was arrested for allegedly killing his 3-year-old son.
