As fans gear up to catch the Season 6 return of “The Walking Dead,” AMC is gifting zombie fanatics a sneak peek at the return of its companion series, “Fear the Walking Dead.” The 10-second teaser trailer is surprisingly jam-packed with information about what to expect from Season 2 before it airs April 10.

Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive teaser, showing the survivors from Season 1 aboard the yacht that was shown to them by the very enigmatic Victor Strand (Colman Domingo). The first six episodes of the record-breaking series ended with Strand, Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis), Nick (Frank Dillane), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie), Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), and Daniel (Rubén Blades) setting out to survive the fall of civilization on the water. That’s where we find the intrepid heroes now, but they’re not alone.

The trailer reveals that the eight survivors on the water aren’t the only ones that had the idea to escape to the high seas. However, they seem to be the only ones that did so in the luxury of a yacht. It seems the group will encounter an entire raft that’s filled with other L.A. escapees. Although there’s no information as to how, things clearly go wrong with the new group as one stranger falls overboard and Travis and Daniel are both seen in what look like action shots of them defending themselves.

The introduction of a human threat would be in keeping with the show’s theme from Season 1. Since the show followed six full seasons of “The Walking Dead,” the audience had the benefit of knowing more about the zombie outbreak than the characters living through it. As a result, everyone had to learn the hard way about destroying the brain, turning whether you’re bit or not and, now, the fact that you cannot trust new people.

“We'll have more of a shorthand going in to Season 2,” showrunner Dave Erickson told the Hollywood Reporter. “There are still things for them to discover. They haven't had the benefit of the CDC download. They know the city has fallen and know things are incredibly bad and they know that this is happening in other states and potentially other countries but they haven't had anybody say to them, 'The world is over; this is our extinction event.'"

What’s perhaps most interesting about the teaser is that it makes a point of opening with establishing shots of six of the eight survivors from Season 1 on the boat. Chris and Strand are left conspicuously absent from the teaser, as well as any previous promotional materials. Given Strand’s popularity following Season 1, it would make sense for producers to play his return a little closer to the vest. However, the absence of him and Chris seems suspicious. It’s possible fans should expect a little more from their return than they were expecting.

“Fear the Walking Dead” premieres Sunday, April 10, on AMC. You can check out the new trailer HERE or below.
