A Florida man under house arrest awaiting trial for a slew of domestic violence charges ditched his ankle monitor, broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and stabbed her to death.

Hugues Dorvilus, 29, broke his ankle monitor around 5:44 a.m. Wednesday. The monitor immediately sent an alert to Miami Dade corrections officers. However, Dorvilus donning an all-black outfit traveled to his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend, Emicherline Etienne’s trailer home on the 9700 block of Northwest 10th Avenue and broke in.

Dorvilus then proceeded to stab Etienne who lay on the mattress. The victim shared the trailer home with her sister and young niece. They woke up to the victim’s scream and witnessed the stabbing, The Miami Herald reported.

Following the incident, Dorvilus told the victim’s sister that he stabbed Etienne “because she cheated on him.” He then fled the scene.

Police responded to the scene shortly after and rushed the victim to Ryder Trauma Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Dorvilus has previous charges stemming from three domestic violence incidents against Etienne. In June, Dorvilus allegedly pointed his 9mm gun at Etienne after the duo got into an argument in his car and she threatened to leave him. According to the June arrest report, Dorvilus threatened to shoot the victim if she left him. The duo struggled and the gun went off, injuring the suspect. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

In 2018, he allegedly punched Etienne, leaving her with bruises and cuts. Dorvilus was charged with aggravated battery. A year later, he was again charged with misdemeanor battery after slapping the victim twice.

According to the police warrant obtained by the outlet, Dorvilus confessed to killing Etienne in a phone call with his brother. Following an all-day manhunt, Dorvilus was arrested late Wednesday in Lauderhill.

Dorvilus has been charged with murder. He has three pending charges stemming from a suspected domestic abuse against Etienne in June. He was booked into the Miami-Dade jail without bail.

According to a report by the CDC, one in five homicide victims in the U.S. is killed by their intimate partner. The statistics identify both current and former partners as intimate partners. Violence inflicted by an intimate partner has become common. About one in four women and one in 10 men have experienced physical violence from an intimate partner.
