A Florida hunter was killed on his Pennsylvania hunting trip when his propane heater exploded on Saturday.

81-year-old Chiefland resident Gregory Scheer was on a hunting trip in north eastern Pennsylvania over the weekend when the propane bottle attached to his heater exploded and ignited two other bottles of gas nearby.

According to ABC 25 WBPF News, Wayne County Police said that Scheer was hunting from a stand on the ground in Texas Township when the incident happened around 12:45 p.m.

Investigators suspected the explosion to have been cause by either the heater malfunctioning or an improper connection between the heater and the propane bottle.

An investigation and an autopsy were planned this week.

Fox News reported that this is the third fatal hunting incident in Pennsylvania this month.

A hunter died falling off a tree stand on Dec. 3 while another died on the following day, Dec. 4 after accidentally shooting himself.
