Ford (F) is recalling nearly 40,000 Transit vans because they may have front windshields that can detach in a crash.

The recall affects certain 2026 and 2020 Transit Connect vans that may have a front windshield that was manufactured with inadequate adhesion to the vehicle's body structure. This could cause the windshield to detach from the vehicle during a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupants of the van.

Vehicle owners may notice wind noise, water leaks, or in some cases, looseness of the windshield glass, according to the recall notice.

To repair the problem, Ford dealers will inspect the windshield and, if necessary, remove and reinstall the windshield at no charge to the van owner.

Transit owners are expected to start receiving recall notices by mail on April 18.

Questions about the recall can be directed to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

Recall documents indicate that Ford became aware of the issue in July 2019 and received about 217 warranty claims on its 2016 Transit models and about 146 warranty claims on its 2020 model Transit models.

Ford said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall issue.

As of Tuesday at 12:12 p.m. ET, shares of Ford were trading at $15.91, down 75 cents, or 4.48%.
