  • Man Utd have qualified for the League Cup semi-final
  • Rashford scored a brace against Charlton

Marcus Rashford has equaled a Wayne Rooney record after scoring in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Charlton in the League Cup.

After Antony opened the scoring for Manchester United in their League Cup quarter-final, Rashford came off the bench and netted a brace in the game's closing stages at Old Trafford. By scoring on Tuesday, Rashford became the first Manchester United player to score in eight home games in a row since Wayne Rooney in March 2010.

Soon after the game ended in Manchester, Rashford took to social media to acknowledge his achievement. The young English forward shared a picture with his former Red Devils teammate Rooney, who then replied by asking Rashford to "keep going."

Rashford is having a fine season with Manchester United as he has been involved in a total of 31 goals for the side in all competitions: 15 goals and 6 assists.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag said Rashford will score many more goals if continues to be focused.

"I have said many times, when he brings himself in the position, when the team brings him in the position, one-on-ones, he will score. And that is what he is doing in this moment. So, if he keeps the focus and putting the same effort in, he will keep continuing scoring," Ten Hag told reporters Tuesday.

Manchester United and Newcastle have now qualified for the League Cup semi-finals. The other two teams will be the winners of Nottingham Forest vs. Wolves and Southampton vs Manchester City.

Ten Hag and Co. have a big game coming up next as they will host defending champions Manchester City in a Premier League fixture Saturday. Earlier when these two sides came face to face at Etihad Stadium in the league, Pep Guardiola's side thrashed their neighbors 6-3, with Erling Haaland recording a hat-trick.

City are second in the Premier League table and are five points behind leaders Arsenal. Manchester United, on the other hand, are in the fourth spot with 35 points. A win on Saturday would see the Red Devils climb to third place.
