  • Aguero has scored 257 goals for Man City in 384 games
  • He also holds the record for most goals scored by an overseas player in Premier League
  • Man City are planning to honor Aguero by installing a statue

Erling Haaland will be a "perfect candidate" to replace Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, says club's former midfielder Trevor Sinclair.

Aguero, who has been associated with Manchester City for a decade now, is set to leave the Etihad club at the end of the season when his current contract expires. He has netted a total of 257 goals in as many as 384 competitive appearances for City and also holds the record for scoring more goals than any other overseas player in the history of the Premier League (181).

The legendary forward will always be cherished for the dramatic winner he scored against QPR in 2012 that had led to Manchester City's first league title in 44 years and their first-ever Premier League trophy. He won the title four times in total and also lifted one FA Cup and five League Cups.

As Pep Guardiola's side, which has already qualified for the final of the League Cup, is just four wins away from sealing the Premier League title and is in the latter stages of the FA Cup and Champions League, Aguero may have the chance to win four more trophies with the club.

"Haaland gets involved in a minimal way in the build-up, which is almost what City like. A little bit of one and two-touch, playing the way you’re facing, going through the lines, then you're getting those little slip balls down the side of the box or a pull back. It seems like Haaland with his rise over the last couple of years would be the perfect candidate for me. With his connection with his dad [Alf-Inge, who played for Man City], the style of football, he would be my choice," Sinclair told talkSport.

Haaland has made an impact in Bundesliga within very little time. He moved from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window and so far, he has netted 49 goals in 49 competitive games. The 20-year-old Norwegian forward is being chased by several top European clubs such as Liverpool FC, FC Barcelona and Manchester United.

Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, in an official press release Monday, said a statue of the City striker has been commissioned, which will come up alongside those of Sergio's former team-mates David Silva and Vincent Kompany. A permanent mosaic dedicated to the player will also be installed at the City Football Academy.
