KEY POINTS

  • Emma Corrin is predicted to win the Best Actress - Drama award at the Golden Globes
  • Matthew Rhys and Josh O’Connor are the top contenders in the Best Actor - Drama category
  • Kaley Cuoco could win the Best Actress - Musical or Comedy award this year

The 2021 Golden Globe Awards show is fast approaching, but as early as now experts already have their bets on who are likely to win the trophies for television at the event.

Check out the early predictions below as shared by TV critic Daniel Feinberg, awards analyst Scott Feinberg and the Guardian U.S. reporter Adrian Horton.

Best Actress - Drama
Olivia Coleman, Jodie Comer, Laura Linney, Emma Corrin and Sarah Paulson are battling it out this year, and Scott believes the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is giving it to Corrin as her portrayal of the late Princess Diana on “The Crown” appealed to many people. Horton strongly agreed with this one.

Best Actor - Drama
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Corrin’s onscreen partner Josh O’Connor would be handed the trophy this year since he also did a great job in portraying Prince Charles. However, Scott feels “Perry Mason” star Matthew Rhys also has a big chance in this category. On the other hand, Bob Odenkirk is also another frontrunner that could topple the rest of the nominees such as Jason Bateman and Al Pacino.

Best Actress - Musical or Comedy
Given the nominees in this category, experts believe the trophy could be given to anyone save for “Emily in Paris” star Lily Collins. Jane Levy and Catherine O’Hara did well on their respective shows, but Elle Fanning and Kaley Cuoco have a slight edge over them in winning the award.

Best Actor - Musical or Comedy
Nominated in this category are Don Cheadle, Nicholas Hoult, Eugene Levy, Jason Sudeikis and Ramy Youssef. Surprisingly, all three experts agreed that the distinction should be given to none other than Sudeikes for his exemplary portrayal of a Kansas football coach turned English football manager.

Best Series - Drama
“Lovecraft Country,” “Ratched,” “The Mandalorian,” “Ozark” and “The Crown” are competing for this award, but it’s easy to see why “The Crown” could easily win this given the international buzz over the cast, storytelling and budget for the show. Nevertheless, Daniel feels “Lovecraft Country” could also emerge triumphant this year.

Best Series - Musical or Comedy
If Sudeikis is considered a frontrunner in the Best Actor - Musical or Comedy category, his show, “Ted Lasso,” also has a good chance of snatching this award, according to Daniel. But Scott believes “The Great” is winning this year. As for Horton, he predicts “The Flight Attendant” to beat the two aforesaid shows, as well as the other contenders in the category — “Emily in Paris” and “Schitt’s Creek.”
