  • Republicans claim Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and The Squad are galloping the Democratic party way to the left
  • They allege AOC and her allies are hell-bent on removing moderate Dems from positions of power
  • The Squad has a two-part plan for dominating the Democratic Party, says Justin Haskins

Republicans are again hammering Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for allegedly plotting a takeover of the Democratic Party by her cabal of extreme left-wing socialists.

GOP apologists Chris Plante and Justin Haskins both sought to drive home this point in an interview on television and on the internet. Plante is host of the radio talk show, "The Chris Plante Show," and is a regular TV guest on Fox News and Fox Business. Haskins is the editorial director at The Heartland Institute, a promoter of climate change denial. The institute rejects the overwhelming scientific consensus about man-made climate change, saying policies to fight climate change damage the U.S. economy.

In a Fox News interview in Nov. 2019, Plante railed against AOC and said she was galloping Democrats far to the left. Asked to comment about AOC taking-in the most campaign contributions among Democrats ($1.4 million) in the third quarter of 2019, Plante let loose with a wide-ranging rant.

"She's on TV a lot, That's really it," said Plante about AOC. "The whole thing has become a terrible TV show and she's the star of the show. She's an embarrassment. She's, like, a college freshman, here in Washington.

"There should be a sitcom about her being a member of Congress. Because she's attractive and she's on television a lot ... the party's moving to the left, galloping to the left."

Plante even noted former president Barack Obama's being accused of being a conservative now, not a centrist, by the new breed of left-wingers among Democrats.

In an op-ed on the Fox News website Sunday, Haskins claims Ocasio-Cortez and the three other members of "The Squad" have never been shy about their plan to shove Democrats toward adopting socialist principles. He accuses The Squad of pushing forward a "two-part" plan to attain this aim.

Part one is to reshape the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) into a powerful political force dominated by The Squad. He accuses Ocasio-Cortez and other radical Democrats of "working to reform the CPC so that the socialist left has the ability to control -- or, at the very least, heavily influence -- the agenda for the entire party."

Part two of The Squad's plan involved removing moderate Democrats from positions of power and influencing Dems "who don’t agree with their socialist platform."

Hasking noted that in an interview earlier this month with New York Magazine, Ocasio-Cortez said the party still has far too many moderate members despite the gains made by the CPC.

“She (Ocasio-Cortez) said the Congressional Progressive Caucus should start kicking people out if they stray too far from the party line," according to the story.

Ocasio-Cortez said other caucuses within the Democratic Party require applications. On the other hand, "they let anybody who the cat dragged in call themselves a progressive. There’s no standard."

Asked about the possibility of former vice president Joe Biden becoming president, Ocasio-Cortez “groaned” and said, “In any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party, but in America, we are.”
