The Jim Gordon that Batman fans have come to know has usually sported a thick mustache. Fox's "Gotham," which tells the origins of Batman, the Gotham City Police Department and other villains, features a young Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who doesn't have facial hair. However, McKenzie said it's something he might start working on in the near future.

According to ComicBook.com, McKenzie addressed the mustache question at the Wizard World New Orleans convention this weekend. The 37-year-old actor said he hopes to "build" towards the look in future seasons of "Gotham."

"I forgot to ask that question when I signed on for the part. I never asked if I had a mustache or not; I just sort of assumed that being a younger guy, that was not going to happen....And then, I got cast and we were about to shoot and all of a sudden the Internet lit up with 'Is he going to have a mustache?' And I had a moment of panic where I was like 'That's really not a good look on a guy my age,'" McKenzie told the crowd.

McKenzie has faced this question since he was first cast for the part in 2014. During an interview with Collider that September, McKenzie said it seemed all anyone wanted to ask him was whether or not he would have a mustache, but the look would be more fitting for a more "mature" Gordon. Showrunner Bruno Heller told McKenzie they were not going to do it because a mustache "would look ridiculous" on the actor.

"It’s 20 years before he can grow into the maturity and wisdom that it takes to sport a mustache, and that’s the line we’re sticking to. Maybe 20 years from now, the mustache will feel earned. For the record, I can grow the mustache. If you think that I can’t, you should watch 'Junebug.' I’m not afraid of the mustache," McKenzie said.

While McKenzie may not be busy growing a mustache any time soon, his character Gordon will have his hands full when the second half of "Gotham" Season 2 picks up in February. Two new villains, Dr. Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) and Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow), will cause chaos around the city in many different ways. Aside from taking on more bad guys, Gordon also asked his current girlfriend Dr. Leslie "Lee" Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) to marry him after learning she was pregnant.
