When a casting notice for Valerie Vale went up, many “Gotham” fans thought the role might be DC Comics’ character Vicki Vale. After all, the Gotham Gazette reporter sounds awfully similar to the journalist who covers Batman’s activities. But now it's revealed that Vicki is an entirely different character.

Valerie is Vicki Vale’s aunt, Entertainment Weekly reports. As her niece one day will, she works for the Gotham Gazette. But she isn’t looking into Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) extracurricular activities yet. It’s Jim Gordon that Valerie is interested in on the Fox series. “Valerie digs into Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon as the key source to unearthing the truth behind Indian Hill, a fishy research facility fronted as a toxic waste dump to cover for its mysterious human experiments,” EW reports.

“Once Upon a Time” star Jamie Chung will play the character in “Gotham” Season 3. It isn’t clear if an actress will be cast as her niece.

Though Gordon is her main suspect, there are plenty of suspicious characters who will be causing trouble when the crime drama returns. Poison Ivy will be recast with an older actress and appear on a more regular basis in addition to several new baddies.

“We’ll be seeing Mad Hatter in Season 3,” executive producer John Stephens revealed to Comic Book Resources last month. “We’ll be seeing the Tweedle Brothers, too, if we’re going to bring the Hatter in. In line with the Court of Owls, we’ll be seeing Talon. And, we should be seeing Solomon Grundy.”

“Gotham” Season 3 premieres Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
