  • Jordan Henderson is set to return as Liverpool captain this weekend
  • Sadio Mane and Thiago Alacantara recently recovered after testing positive for COVID-19
  • Liverpool have won three out of their four league games this season

Liverpool FC are set to welcome back key players Sadio Mane, Thiago Alcantara and skipper Jordan Henderson for their upcoming Premier League clash against Everton.

Mane and Alcantara had been out of action after the two contracted COVID-19. Alcantara made just one substitute appearance for The Reds following his $35 million summer transfer from Bayern Munich to Liverpool before he tested positive for the virus.

However, earlier this week, Alcantara posted pictures on social media showing he was out of isolation and would be available for selection ahead of the Merseyside derby in the Premier League.

"Thiago and Mane missed the Reds’ defeat at Aston Villa having tested positive for COVID-19, but are back on the training pitch ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Goodison Park to face Everton," read Liverpool’s statement on their official website.

The club statement also confirmed that Liverpool captain Henderson reported no problems after he played and led England in their 2-1 win over Belgium in the Nations League on Sunday.

Mane and Henderson have been core members of Jurgen Klopp’s side and their absence was felt when Liverpool played their last match in the first week of October before the international break. Aston Villa thrashed the defending champions 7-2 at Villa Park and as a result, Liverpool are currently placed fifth in the 2020-21 Premier League points table, while Everton and Aston Villa are placed first and second respectively.

Liverpool will however be without their first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury. His replacement, Adrian, had a nightmare experience in Birmingham on Oct. 4 when he conceded seven goals. The last time Liverpool conceded seven goals in a league game was back in 1963.

"No chance to play against Everton. We don’t know exactly. Let me say, it could have been worse with that injury, that’s for sure. We were slightly lucky but it’s not that he can play against Everton. I don’t want to put a timeframe on it but four weeks could be possible, six weeks is maybe more likely, but I don’t know. We have to assess this thing, that’s how it is," Klopp said about Alisson’s availability last week.
