The latest anime from Wit Studio, “Great Pretender,” is set to release the first five episodes on Netflix Japan.

“Great Pretender” revolves around a fraudster named Makoto “Edamame” Edamura. He, along with his partner Kudo try to con a Frenchman. However, the plan fails as the Frenchman is a bigger conman who travels the world.

According to the official website, “Great Pretender” will start streaming on Netflix Japan from June 2. Case 1, which includes the first five episodes will drop Tuesday (June 2). Case 2 (episodes 6-10) will release Tuesday (June 9), Case 3 (episodes 11-14) will release Tuesday (June 16). Meanwhile, the TV broadcast of “Great Pretender” episodes start Wednesday (July 8) on Fuji TV +Ultra.

In the debut episode of the “Great Pretender,” the number one scammer of Japan, Makoto Edamura, scams old people, and tourists. One day, he decides to scam a Frenchman. However, he turns out to be his guru in the conning business. Laurent Thierry challenges Makoto for a match in Los Angeles. Can the number one con artist takedown Thierry?

“Makoto Edamura is supposedly Japan's greatest swindler. Together with his partner Kudo, they try to trick a Frenchman in Asakusa but unexpectedly get tricked instead. The Frenchman, whom they tried to swindle, turns out to be Laurent Thierry- a much higher-level 'confidence man,' in control of the mafias. Edamura is yet to find out what fate awaits him, after having engaged in the Frenchman's dirty jobs...!” reads the official series synopsis via Anime News Network.

The cast of “Great Pretender” includes Chiaki Kobayashi as Makoto Edamura, Junichi Suwabe as Laurent Thierry, Mie Sonozaki as Paula Dickins, and Natsumi Fujiwara as Abigail Jones.
