“Grey’s Anatomy” alum Eric Dane is suffering from depression.

The actor’s rep recently confirmed the news to People and said that the filming for TNT’s “The Last Ship” has been put on hold to accommodate Dane’s recovery. “Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues. He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request… He looks forward to returning,” the rep said.

According to Variety, Dane’s request came just a few days after “The Last Ship” was renewed by the network for Season 5. The series was also picked up for a 10-episode Season 4 in July. At the time, TNT’s executive vice president of original programming released a statement expressing their excitement over the renewal. “‘The Last Ship’ has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons. We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018,” the statement read.

Throughout the past couple of seasons, “The Last Ship” has served as one of the steadiest shows on TNT in terms of ratings. It has also been dubbed as one of basic cable’s top 10 summer dramas among viewers aged 18 to 49. The show has also garnered an average of 7.1 million viewers per episode across multiple platforms.

In the series, Dane, 44, plays the role of Captain Tom Chandler. This role marked his second most popular portrayal on television after starring in ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” as Dr. Mark Sloan. Dane was part of executive producer Shonda Rhimes’ series since Season 1, but Dr. Sloan was killed off at the beginning of Season 9 in 2012.

Months earlier, the actor voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility for his addiction to painkillers. At the time, his rep explained Dane’s decision to undergo treatment via a statement to People. “Actor Eric Dane voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility to help him get off pain medication that he was prescribed for a sports injury that he suffered over the recent hiatus. He reports back to work this week. Business as usual,” he said.

In 2014, Dane also opened up about his previous struggles, including but not limited to his addiction to painkillers. In 2009, a video of Dane, his wife Rebecca Gayheart and former teen beauty queen Kari Ann Peniche circulated online. The 12-minute video contained nude clips of the trio engaging in sexual acts that was recorded behind locked doors in Peniche’s bedroom. Dane and Gayheart filed a lawsuit against the company that leaked their tape.

“I honestly think I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be at this moment in time. And I’m really happy… But we’ve all made mistakes. My one regret is that I got the person I love most wrapped up in all that: Rebecca,” he told People.

Dane and Rebecca tied the knot in 2004. They have been blessed with two children, Billie Beatrice and Georgia.
