Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton got engaged in late October, but it nearly got ruined after she almost backed out of their trip to his Oklahoma ranch.

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in October through matching posts showing Stefani with her fabulous ring. During her recent interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker gave more details about the moment Shelton popped the question.

"I had no idea, obviously. In fact, I was trying to get out of going to Oklahoma because it was getting too complicated with COVID and the family. I was like, 'I think we should just cancel the trip,’” Stefani shared.

“It was one of those. Then we got it together and we ended up going. [Our family] was all there,” she added.

The soon-to-be bride also confirmed reports that Shelton asked for her father’s blessing before going down on one knee. Speaking about the surprise proposal, Stefani revealed that her fiancé asked her to get the fire starter in the cabinet to light the fireplace. Much to her surprise, she found an engagement ring in a box.

Shelton hid the bling in his truck for a week, strategically placing it on the compartment door.

“I was like, 'What? Are you serious?'" Stefani said of how she reacted to the surprise.

After finding the ring, their family surrounded them and cheered. Despite having witnesses to the engagement, nobody got their camera out to document the special moment.

Apart from Stefani’s father, Shelton reportedly also sought the permission of her three kids, who were also present during the proposal. The country singer said that it was important that her children were there when it happened.

“I didn't want to take her away or do something private away from the kids. I felt it was important for the kids to be a part of that moment, so that's what I did. I had the ring for a couple weeks; maybe two and a half weeks," he shared.

Shelton popped the big question to Stefani in his Tishomingo, Oklahoma ranch. They reportedly plan to exchange vows in a chapel built by the “Austin” singer.
