Joe Biden needed to win some crucial swing states on Election Day and appears to have pulled off a win in one southwest battleground. At about 12:05 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Fox News projected Biden to be the winner of Arizona.

By 12:15 a.m. ET, the Associated Press had yet to call Arizona for Biden. The state has 11 electoral votes.

Should Arizona go to Biden, he would be the first Democrat to win Arizona since Bill Clinton did in 1996. Biden's win was due to a strong lead in Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix.

Biden's campaign was bolstered by endorsements from Cindy McCain, the widow of late Arizona Sen. John McCain, as well as former Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake.

But Biden may have a tough task winning all 270 electoral votes.

In other Sun Belt battleground states, Trump is considered the likely winner in North Carolina and Florida. Meanwhile, The New York Times projected Trump to win the key battleground state of Ohio.

The Rust Belt states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan are key for Biden or Trump to claim victory. The mail-in vote, which skews Democratic, will take time to be counted in these states.
