Bruno Fernandes heaped praise on Edinson Cavani, saying he can "smell" the goal after the duo helped Manchester United defeat Southampton 3-2 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester United went 0-2 down at half-time before Fernandes netted one at the 60th minute to bring the Red Devils back into the game. Cavani netted a brace to hand his side a thrilling victory at the St. Mary's Stadium.

In a post-match interview with Man Utd's official website, Fernandes hailed the 33-year-old, who completed a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the recently ended summer market.

"When you have strikers who move a lot, and they give you the chance to play balls for them, it is really good. I think every striker we have now gives us options. I don't want to go on personally about Edi or another player because it's not fair, but of course, Edi has qualities, everyone knows that. For me, he's one of those strikers that can smell the goal as you saw twice. He smelt the goal, you need to have this feeling to score these two goals," Fernandes said after scoring his 10th goal of the ongoing season.

"As I said some weeks and some months ago, Edi will help us and he is helping already. For me, one of the best games he played was against Basaksehir in the Champions League and nobody talks about that because he didn't score but he did an amazing game. He helps a lot and he will help more and more in the future," added Fernandes in the same interview.

With the win, Manchester United climbed to the No. 8 spot in the 2020-21 Premier League table. It was their eighth consecutive away win, which was a new club record for the Red Devils and a new feature in Solskjaer's hat as the Old Trafford boss. The previous record of seven straight away wins in the Premier League was set between April and August in 1993, with the side beating Norwich (twice), Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Wimbledon, Aston Villa and Southampton.

Solskjaer's boys have beaten Brighton (twice), Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Everton, and Southampton to set the new record.
