Henry Cavill has revealed that he would love to play the role of iconic MI6 agent James Bond in the future. The search for the next Bond has already begun as Daniel Craig will be donning the suit for the last time in the upcoming movie “No Time To Die.”

Speaking in an interview with GQ, the 37-year-old actor shared his views on playing Bond on the big screen and said that it would be “very exciting” to play the secret agent. During the discussion, Cavill also noted that he would absolutely love to play the character and would jump at the chance to replace Craig in future movies.

“At this stage, it's all up in the air. We'll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting. If Barbara [Broccoli] and [producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” GQ quoted Cavill, as saying.

Interestingly, the “Man of Steel” star auditioned for the role in the past and also opened up about why he was not considered to play the character.

While talking in an interview with Men’s Health last year, Cavill revealed that the world could have seen him playing the iconic character for the big screen instead of Daniel Craig if he just prepared better for the screen test he did in 2006.

“I probably could have prepared better . I remember the director, Martin Campbell, saying, ‘Looking a little chubby there, Henry.’ I didn’t know how to train or diet. And I’m glad Martin said something because I respond well to the truth. It helps me get better,” Cavill said during that interview.

Craig eventually got the role and made his debut as James Bond in “Casino Royale,” which took his popularity to a whole new level. Apart from “Casino Royale,” Craig portrayed the intelligence officer in movies like “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall,” and “Spectre.”

Cavill is currently riding high on the success of his latest movie “Enola Holmes.” The movie tells the story of Enola Holmes (played by Millie Bobby Brown), who embarks on a journey to find her missing mother. In the process, she plans to outwit his famous brother and detective Sherlock Holmes (portrayed by Cavill). However, the story takes a u-turn when she discovers a conspiracy around a young mysterious lord.

The Netflix film garnered universal acclaim and currently holds a score of 92% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
