  • "Horizon Forbidden West" is the sequel of the hit game "Horizon Zero Dawn"
  • The game is in development for PS5
  • Sony teased about the release date of "Horizon Forbidden West"

Tech giant Sony is "feeling pretty good" on the likelihood that "Horizon Forbidden West" is arriving this year alongside other first-party exclusives like "Returnal" and "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart."

That's according to Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan in a recent interview with GQ. The head honcho was asked about the release roadmap for this year. "Yeah, we’re feeling pretty good about "Returnal," "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" and "Horizon Forbidden West," he says. "And, you know, there are two approaches to this: you can either hold the date and put out the game irrespective of quality, or you can ship it when it’s right. We have always taken the latter approach. There have been some fairly high-profile instances of publishers trying the former approach," he adds.

While it is not clear which title Ryan is referencing, many believe it could be "Cyberpunk 2077." Ryan notes Sony's commitment to only releasing titles when they are ready for the market. “It never works at the best of times,” he says. “But I think in this world, where creative people are working remotely, you’ve just got to respect the fact that that development needs to take what it needs to take and to get the games right,” Ryan notes.

"Horizon Forbidden West" is the much-awaited sequel of the successful game "Horizon Zero Dawn." The game was announced at the PS5 Showcase last year, and its story picks up where the first installment left. In the trailer, fans can see Sylens, which suggests that most of the game's plot will follow his schemes, but whether he is an enemy or an unreliable ally is still unknown at this point.

A month ago, Guerilla Games, the studio behind "Horizon Forbidden West," spoke with Gamesradar and teased some details about the sequel. "There are so many gameplay and storytelling possibilities in this universe and we can't wait to explore them further in Horizon Forbidden West." While there is not much about the upcoming game, fans can expect that Aloy will continue his journey to save civilization once again.
