General Motors (GM) has finally taken the wraps off its 2022 GMC Hummer EV as it looks to take on Tesla’s (TSLA) Cybertruck. While the two trucks will rival each other in the electric truck market, they have distinct differences that may sway consumers one way or the other.

GM is selling the first edition of the GMC Hummer EV for $112,595 in contrast to Tesla’s Cybertruck, which has a price range of $39,900 to $69,900, depending on the motor configuration. The Cybertruck’s self-driving system is another $8,000 more while GM’s includes Super Cruise – a driver assist feature – on the Hummer EV.

GM said it will begin production of the GMC Hummer EV in late 2021 at its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center in Michigan. Telsa is also expected to begin production of the Cybertruck in late 2021. Both EVs are currently taking reservations for $100.

However, reservations for the GMC Hummer EV First Edition were sold out at the time of writing. GM does offer different trim levels of the truck in 2, 2X, and 3X models that are selling for between $79,995 and $99,995. Reservations are currently open for these models.

The GMC Hummer EV First Edition has a 1,000-horsepower rating and 11,500 pounds-per-feet of torque rating. Driving range is 350 miles on a full charge. It is expected to hit 60 mph in about three seconds. Batteries for the truck are produced through a joint venture with LG Chem.

The Tesla Cybertruck offers 7,500 towing capacity and a 250-mile driving range on a full charge. It can hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The tri-motor configuration has a driving range of 500 miles and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. The truck is expected to hit 60 mph in under 2.9 seconds.

The Hummer EV is the first fully-electric vehicle in GMC’s portfolio, the company said. Tesla also produces the fully electric Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y vehicles.

Shares of General Motors stock were trading at $36.54, up 94 cents or 2.64% at premarket open, while shares of Tesla were trading at $421.00, down 94 cents or 0.22% at the same time.
