  • Carole Middleton revealed Christmas Eve is a "special occasion" for her family
  • She said her grandkids -- Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis -- are excited for a visit from Santa Claus
  • Queen Elizabeth II and her family will not be visiting Sandringham for their Christmas celebrations

Christmas will not be the same this year for the British Royal Family as they will be staying apart due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and skipping traditional festivities at the Sandringham Estate.

Nevertheless, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — are in high spirits for Christmas celebrations. Duchess of Cambridge’s mother has revealed her grandkids are looking forward to Christmas Eve as it is a “special occasion” for her family, People magazine reported. The outlet speculated the grandmother-of-three may have also hinted at her royal grandkids’ Christmas Eve plans.

In her new Instagram post for her party supply business, Carole Middleton mentioned the children are excited for a visit from Santa Claus on the big day.

“Christmas Eve has always been a special occasion for my family," she wrote. "Children get sweetly excited by the idea that Father Christmas is coming, and really want to give him something — and he’ll really appreciate our new Christmas Eve sets and boxes."

She also suggested how socially distant families and cousins can come together through video calls.

"If you’re planning a virtual Christmas, cousins in different households might enjoy organizing their goodies for Santa together over a video call," she added.

Kate’s parents, Carole Middleton and Michael Middleton, own a party supply business named Party Pieces. The former commercial pilot and flight attendant founded the business in the 1980s.

The Duchess’ mother previously mentioned her three grandkids will assist her in decorating her Christmas tree this year too.

“I normally let my grandchildren help me decorate the tree. This year, I’ll ask them by video call to decide which decoration should go where," Carole wrote in an old post for Party Pieces.

The Buckingham Palace confirmed Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will celebrate a “quiet” Christmas at Windsor Palace, The Guardian reported. The pair will not be visiting Sandringham Estate where they usually invite all the close family members for festivities.

This year, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the 94-year-old monarch and 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh will be spending holidays in an exclusive social bubble. It is believed the Cambridge family may not make it to the “bubble” and skip Christmas with the queen. While the news is yet to be confirmed, it is said that Prince William, Kate, and their children might visit Middleton’s in their Berkshire home in southeast England for the holidays.
