Prince William reportedly had a heartfelt reaction to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles snubbing his mom, Princess Diana.

The late Princess of Wales was stripped of her HRH title following her divorce from the Prince of Wales. According to Penny Junor in her book “The Duchess: The Untold Story,” Prince Charles and Princess Diana both retained equal access to their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, and shared equal responsibility when it came to their upbringing. However, there was a “contentious issue“ on how Princess Diana should be called as she was stripped of her royal title.

“[Diana] asked Prince William if he minded her losing her royal status,” Junor wrote.

“I don’t mind what you’re called – you’re Mummy,” the author quoted 14-year-old Prince William as saying.

According to Junor, it was not what the prince wanted, but it was a decision made by the Queen. The decision made “little practical difference,” but in public relations terms, it was considered a “blunder.”

Meanwhile, Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, said in his 2001 book, “A Royal Duty,” that Queen Elizabeth II was actually happy to leave the HRH title to Princess Diana. However, it was Prince Charles who was “adamant” that she give it up.

Meanwhile, Tina Brown has another take in her 2007 book “The Diana Chronicles.” According to her, Queen Elizabeth II was never going to allow Princess Diana to keep the title for the same reason that the Queen Mother was adamant about Wallis Simpson.

Brown noted that they were concerned about what would happen to Princess Diana’s private life in her second act and the unforeseen difficulties that her second husband might cause.

However, Prince William reportedly promised his mom that he would return the title to her when he becomes the new king.

“Don't worry Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king,” Prince William told Princess Diana.

Burrell is confident that when Prince William becomes king the first thing he will do is to restore Princess Diana’s HRH title. If the Duke of Cambridge successfully restores his mother’s title, it will raise Princess Diana to the position which she should have been raised 20 years ago.
