Kate Middleton and Prince William gave a nod to Princess Diana through Princess Charlotte.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge broke a royal tradition when they chose a new venue for Princess Charlotte’s christening. Prince William and Middleton opted to celebrate the ceremony at St. Mary Magdalene.

Her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis were christened at Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace. A number of royal events including Meghan Markle’s baptism happened there, but not Princess Charlotte’s and there’s a reason why Prince William and Middleton selected a different venue.

“It was the time of the year, they were there, but I also think it was a nod to Princess Diana,” royal expert Angela Mollard said in the “Royals” podcast.

“That’s where she had been christened, all those years ago,” she continued while pointing out Princess Charlotte being a “daughter.”

“So they do follow tradition but they do create new ones, and I thought that was rather lovely,” Mollard added.

Aside from picking the chapel where Princess Diana was christened, they also included her name as one of Princess Charlotte’s middle names. Initially, Prince William wanted to name his daughter after his mom. But out of respect to Prince Charles who already has a second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, he decided to just include it as one of his daughter’s middle names.

However, he doesn’t like Prince Harry and Markle to use the name for their baby if they have a daughter. According to an insider, Prince William will be furious if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would name their baby “Diana.”

If the couple would still select the name, it would only fuel their indifference. Also, if they will do it, then it will only indicate that Prince Harry no longer cares about what Prince William thinks anymore.

In related news, Markle’s baby is expected to have a more global impact compared to Princess Charlotte, Prince George and Prince Louis. Middleton and Prince William’s kids boosted the British economy and Prince Harry and Markle’s baby will have the same effect and more.

According to royal commentator Emily Nash, this could be due to the fact that the former “Suits” star is an American. Baby Sussex is followed by Americans, so his or her birth will affect the economy globally not just the U.K.
