Scotland’s Scott McTominay has thanked Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for showing "faith" in him as the midfielder has signed a new five-year contract with the Old Trafford side.

A Man Utd Youth Academy’s product, McTominay, who has been associated with the iconic club since he was five, has been rewarded for his impressive run in the ongoing season. He will stay at the club until 2025 with an option to extend it for another year.

McTominay made his Man Utd debut under then-manager Jose Mourinho in 2017. He has become an integral part of Solskjaer’s team and has established himself as a regular starter of the Red Devils squad. In 21 Premier League games this campaign, McTominay has netted four goals and overall, across tournaments, the midfielder has scored five goals in a total of 28 matches for the club.

The 23-year-old said he is happy to play a part in the team’s future.

“Whilst I understand that we all have so many other things to think about at the moment, I’m so happy to sign this contract and play a part in the future ahead for this team. All I have ever known is United and I hope that my passion for the club shows every time I go onto the pitch. I’ll continue to give everything for this club whenever I pull on the shirt," the midfielder said, according to Man Utd’s official website.

Thanking Solskjaer, McTominay added, "I want to thank the manager for the faith he has shown in me and everyone at the club that has helped me to get where I am today. I’m looking forward to finishing this season on a high and hopefully achieving our aims.”

Acknowledging McTominay’s vital role in the team, Solskjaer said, "Scott has done tremendously well since I joined and has been a vital part of our midfield. He brings determination, tenacity and skill to the game and we know that Scott’s attributes will be a major asset to the squad over the coming years.”

Ever since Solskjaer took over Man Utd’s charge full-fledged, he has encouraged talent from the academy like McTominay.

“As we always say the academy is the bedrock of the club and having come through the system everyone knows that Scott has shown the exact mentality that you need to succeed at Manchester United. I look forward to seeing his continued improvement in the years to come,” the Norwegian boss added.
