Ian Somerhalder is officially a daddy -- to a new horse, that is. After weeks of fielding dating rumors, “The Vampire Diaries” star announced via social media Tuesday that he and "Twilight” star, Nikki Reed, 26, have adopted a “baby boy.”

“Proud new dad. What amazing creatures they are,” Somerhalder, 35, posted to Instagram alongside an image of his new family member. “Wow. His name is Eagle. Thank you @iamnikkireed for snapping this special moment with our big baby boy.”

Somerhalder’s newest addition will join his already extensive four-legged family including Pitt Bull Neitzsche (who birthed five puppies in October) and rescue cat, Moke.

Prior to the adoption announcement, Somerhalder, a well-known animal rights activist, visited the Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas, Aug. 2. “Farm love ... make out session,” Somerhalder captioned an Instagram photo of himself smooching one of the organization’s goats. The TV star later announced his visit involved strategizing future partnerships for The Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

Despite Somerhalder and Reed's animal adoption, the actors have yet to officially confirm their romance. The duo first sparked dating rumors after they were photographed out-and-about in Los Angeles on two occasions. Reports said the rumored couple was first spotted jogging and later flirting at a local farmer’s market.

Somerhalder was reportedly seen July 26 “sweet and passionately kissing” Reed during Entertainment Weekly’s 2014 Comic-Con Celebration in San Diego. The duo next was photographed stepping out for a meal at Craig's Restaurant in Los Angeles July 27 following their appearance at the 2014 Young Hollywood Awards.
