Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 with the model number GT-I9100 will now be able to experience the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on their devices as the Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) custom ROM based on the new firmwar was released Monday.

The new Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) is based on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) release of Android 4.2.2. In order to flash the custom firmware users are required to have a custom ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery installed on their devices.

“The latest build of AOKP Android 4.2.2 ROM is not about new features, but the team has managed to successfully merge the previous AOKP code with the new Android 4.2.2,” a Team Android report said.

Before installing the custom Jelly Bean ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S2, users will have to connect the phone to the computer. To do that, USB drivers for the Galaxy S2 must be installed on the computer. Click here to download Samsung Galaxy S2 USB drivers.

A tutorial explaining the process of installing the Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean custom ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) is given below:

But before trying out the steps, there are certain important aspects to keep in mind.

- Backup your data, settings and apps, so that you can recover them if you happen to lose any

- Make sure that the device has at least 80 percent battery power

- Make sure that USB Debugging is enabled

- Backup your EFS Folder

- The device must be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. A backup using that is also strongly recommended

This tutorial is for factory unlocked Android phones. Therefore, it should not be tried on phones that are locked to a carrier.

Installation Tutorial

Step 1: Download Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean Custom ROM.

Step 2: Download Google Apps for Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100).

Step 3: Connect your Galaxy S2 to the computer using USB cable.

Step 4: Copy and paste the downloaded files to the SD card.

Step 5: Disconnect the USB and switch off the phone.

Step 6: Boot into ClockworkMod recovery in your Galaxy S2 by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together until the Samsung logo appears on screen.

Step 7: In ClockworkMod recovery, perform a full data wipe first. To do so, select the wipe data/ factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait for a few minutes till the data wipe is completed.

After that, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the Power button to select it.

Step 8: Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard.”

Step 9: Use the Volume keys to navigate to the Android 4.2.2 ROM zip file copied to the SD card and select it using the Power button.

Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen.

Step 10: Once the ROM installation is done, repeat the step 9 but choose the Google Apps zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.

Step 11: After the installation is done, go back to the main recovery menu and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now.” The first boot may take some time.

After the Galaxy S2 boots up, it will be running on Android 4.2.2 AOKP Build 4 Jelly Bean custom ROM.
