iOS 5 Jailbreak: New Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 Released for iOS 5.0.1

Those Apple users who installed the new iOS 5.0.1 on their iPhones, iPads and iPods can now jailbreak the new update that was supposed to take care of the battery-related issues in the iPhone 4S.

iPhone Dev-team member MuscleNerd updated his Twitter page to provide information on Redsn0w's latest update, offering users the freedom to use many exciting applications offered by Cydia.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 tethered JB released. Please see update #17 for what's new! MuscleNerd tweeted. This update has been so long in coming specifically because of those other things, he added.

In the update on iPhone Dev-team's official blog, MuscleNerd wrote: The holiday season is almost here (Happy Holidays!) so we realize everyone is busy (especially @pod2g!). And even though we always recommend that jailbreakers stay where they are until a new untethered JB comes out, that's not always possible. So we've updated redsn0w for those who may have found themselves at iOS 5.0.1, and added some other useful features too.

The new jailbreak is available for download and will be a semi-tethered one.

This is still a tethered jailbreak for all except old-bootrom 3GS users, MuscleNerd posted.

The update iOS 5.0.1 which tried unsuccessfully to battle battery-related issues has been followed by the iOS 5.1 beta 2 for developers. The new update, therefore, could save the Cupertino-based tech giant some embarrassment.

MuscleNerd has been trying hard to find an untethered jailbreak for the iOS 5 but so far no hacker from either of the Dev-teams has been able to find it. Pd2g, a French member of the Chronic Dev-team, claimed to have found an untethered jailbreak but Apples users are still waiting for its release.

According to Pod2g, the recently found untethered jailbreak works only on Apple devices running the A4 processor; those with A5 pieces of hardware, like the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S, will have to wait, for the untethered jailbreak, until a hacker finds a bootrom-exploit in Apple's latest processor.
