KEY POINTS

  • The iOS versus Android debate continues, but not one of them is perfect
  • Some consumers will find the iPhone to be the better choice because of its features
  • These features might come at a cost, but they're worth it

While iOS and Android fans continue to debate each other as to which of the two ecosystems are better, it's a fact that making the choice to purchase a smartphone largely depends on one's preferences and budget. Both ecosystems have their fair share of pros and cons, which means not one is perfect.

Nevertheless, some consumers will find iPhones as the better choice when looking for a new smartphone to purchase. Here are a few reasons why Apple's offering is the better buy, as per Tom's Guide.

Continuity features

Consumers who have already invested in Apple's ecosystem (i.e. own at least an iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or any combination of the three) will find an iPhone to be the better choice. This is because of the way Apple designed each and every device to work with each other without the added hassle.

iPhone users, for example, will be able to receive calls on their handset and continue the conversation on their Mac without having to end the call. Consumers who shop online using their Mac or iPad can also use the iPhone's biometric authentication features to pay using Apple Pay.

Freedom from bloatware

Everyone who's ever used an iPhone will know the feeling of freedom from having to deal with the (unwelcome) bloatware that normally comes with Android devices. All iPhones come out of the box devoid of these power- and memory-consuming apps that aren't really good for anything.

Quicker software updates

iPhones receive software updates faster than any Android handset. Sometimes, Android handsets even receive updates only months after the update was released.

Longer support

iPhone users will continue to receive major software updates for years. The iPhone 6, which was launched with iOS 9 in 2015, for example, recently received the iOS 13 update last fall. The Samsung Galaxy S6, which was launched the same year as the iPhone 6, stopped receiving updates years ago. It's easy to understand that iPhones are designed for long-term use.

These are but some of the reasons why iPhones are the great choice. Sure, they're quite pricey and are beyond the reach of some people's wallets, but they do offer features that are worth the cost.
