Seven people, including a newborn and two children, have died from a mudslide Saturday on a resort island off of Naples, Italy, according to officials. As of Sunday evening, there are still five people missing and believed to buried under the mud and debris.

The mudslide in Casamicciola on Ischia Island caused buildings to collapse. The mudslide also caused vehicles and debris to be pushed down into the sea.

"Mud and water tend to fill every space. Our teams are searching with hope, even if it is very difficult," Luca Cari, the spokesman for Italian firefighters, told RAI state TV.

Officials said the mudslide was caused by heavy rainfall that loosened the mud on the mountainside.

Among the dead are the parents of the 3-week-old, a 5-year-old girl and her 11-year-old brother, a 31-year-old island resident and a Bulgarian tourist.

"We are continuing the search with our hearts broken, because among the missing are also minors," Giacomo Pascale, the mayor of the neighboring town of Lacco Ameno, told RAI.
