If you were unsuccessful in trying to download an app on your iPhone or iPad Tuesday morning, you were in good company. Apple's App Store appeared to be having trouble with downloading apps, according to reports on social media. I tried to download an app and got this error message:

App Store Cannot Purchase
I got an error message when trying to download an app around 11:30AM. Screenshot

The App Store and iTunes appeared to be going through a service interruption. While users could access the app store and the iTunes website, downloading didn't seem to work. Apple's official service dashboard listed no interruptions, but that's no surprise. Apple's dashboard often is slow to reflect issues and updates only after the problem is resolved. DownDetector, which crowdsources error reports, indicated a strong spike in people having issues starting around 11 a.m. EDT.

Apple has suffered a few notable widespread iTunes outages this year, including one in March that took down iCloud, iTunes and Game Center.

Update: The App Store appears to be back. Apple has not yet acknowledged the outage.
