Jake Paul could finally be taking on a true professional boxer in his much-awaited next fight.

Despite knocking out a former UFC champion in Tyron Woodley, Paul’s success in pro boxing is still viewed by some as a mockery.

However, the said narrative could change now that Paul has confirmed his interest in facing Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“It’s interesting. I like that fight a lot because it silences the critics,” Paul recently told Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix. “He was a former world champion, and I know I could beat him. And you look at his record, it’s like 50 wins or something, and I don’t even know the losses, but it’s a good record. So that challenge excites me and I’m down.”

It can be recalled that Paul should’ve already added a pro boxer in his resume last year when he was slated for a bout against Tommy Fury, the younger brother of undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

According to Paul, he will soon face a “real boxer,” and even if it’s not Chavez, he assures that it will still happen no matter what.

“And this is what people don’t understand is that, even after I knocked out [Tyron] Woodley, they were all like, ‘Fight a real boxer.’ I’m like, ‘You guys, I tried, and he dropped out of the fight two weeks before.’ So I want to fight a real boxer, newsflash, and I’m going to. Just have some f------ patience.”

Fury, on the other hand, has been reflecting on his botched fight against Paul.

The Brit pugilist had earlier stressed that he and the YouTube star-turned-pro boxer has an “unfinished business” and he will be keen on making it happen this year.

Unfortunately, Paul insisted that Fury doesn’t have anything interesting to offer him at this point and he would rather fight his brother Tyson or his father John.

"[Tommy Fury] wants the payday,” Paul claimed. “ But I said it before, I don't wanna take the fight with him, he doesn't deserve it. I'd rather fight Tyson Fury. I'll fight his brother or his dad before I'll fight Tommy."

Apart from Chavez and Fury, Paul also has his sights on possible big-money fights against a couple of UFC stars, including Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.

However, UFC president Dana White has been vocal about his disapproval.
