The day has finally arrived and "Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is a free man. He was released at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

"We are elated to finally close this chapter of our life. Thank you to our family, friends, and fans for the continuous love and support during this time, it brought us so much peace and comfort," Mike and his wife, Lauren Pesce said, according to TMZ.

The MTV star just finished an eight-month sentence for tax evasion at Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York. "Jersey Shore Family Reunion," a reboot of the hit show "Jersey Shore," chronicled the events leading up to Mike turning himself in to authorities and it appears it will do the same now that he's home.

Sources told the entertainment news site that members of the MTV show's cast caught flights on Wednesday to record the events leading up to and including the 37-year-old's release.

Fans will probably have to wait to see how everything goes down, but whatever happens, he could look forward to enjoying some funfetti cake. Another thing he's looking forward to -- starting a family.

Mike and Lauren shared, "We look forward to continuing our life as husband and wife and working on baby situations!"
