A new video ad released by the Republican Voters Against Trump organization highlights South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s past praise of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and also mentions his earlier criticisms of Donald Trump. The ad will run in North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, D.C., television markets.

“If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. You need to do some self-evaluation, ‘cause, what’s not to like?” Graham, a Republican, said in an interview with the Huffington Post in 2015, with the quotes featured in the ad. Graham has called Biden “as good a man as God ever created.”

“He’s said some of the most incredibly heartfelt things that anybody could ever say to me. He’s the nicest person I think I’ve ever met in politics,” Graham continues.

The ad also highlights Graham’s criticisms of Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries.

"What is Donald Trump’s campaign about?” Graham said. “He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic religious bigot. You know how you 'make America great again?' Tell Donald Trump to go to hell.”

Graham has become a stalwart supporter of Trump in recent years and although Graham and Biden shared a cordial relationship there might be added tension between the two after Trump was accused of pressuring Ukraine to gather dirt on Hunter Biden’s activities in Ukraine. Hunter Biden, the second-oldest son of Joe Biden, has not been charged with violating Ukrainian law.

Graham ardently defended Trump during the trial and said he supports an investigation into Hunter Biden’s activities in Ukraine. In a February interview with CNN, Jill Biden, Joe Biden’s wife, said she no longer considers Graham as a friend.

Graham, 64, could be facing a tough reelection battle in November. His Democratic opponent, Jaime Harrison, has frequently criticized Graham for his close relationship with Trump. An online poll from Civiqs in late May showed both candidates tied at 42%.
