John Cena makes his return to WWE on the June 27 edition of “Monday Night Raw” in what many believe could be the preclude to match at SummerSlam 2022. If the biggest wrestler of his generation is going to get back inside the ring this year, one potential candidate stands out as the most likely.

Cena is returning to celebrate his 20th anniversary of becoming a WWE superstar. In preparation for his appearance, Cena has mentioned Theory multiple times.

Cena recently named Theory as his favorite current WWE superstar and the WWE superstar who is “in most need of an Attitude Adjustment.” Theory responded to Cena’s jab on social media, planting the seeds for an upcoming feud.

It is clear that WWE has big plans for Theory, much like the promotion did when Cena made his debut two decades ago. At just 24 years old, Theory was involved in a storyline with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38. He received a stunner from Stone Cold Steve Austin at the WWE’s biggest event of 2022.

Two weeks later, Theory became the youngest United States Champion in WWE history. No WWE superstar has had more United States Championship runs than Cena. It would make perfect sense for the title to be on the line in a match between the WWE great and one of the promotion’s up-and-coming stars.

If Cena has a SummerSlam match against someone other than Theory, Riddle might be the most logical opponent. Riddle has emerged as one of the company’s most popular stars, especially in light of his recent WWE Championship match with Roman Reigns.

Riddle was suggested as a possible "dream opponent" for Cena's next match on WWE's Instagram page.

Cena last appeared on WWE TV when he was defeated by Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam 2021. Reigns and Brock Lesnar are already scheduled to have a match at this year’s SummerSlam.

SummerSlam 2022 is scheduled to take place on July 30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
