American professional golfer John Daly could have been richer by now if he had not lost millions of dollars in gambling.

As of 2021, the 55-year-old golfer has $2 million in net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

In an interview with Yahoo's Graham Bensinger, Daly revealed he gambled away an estimated $55 million between 1991 and 2007.

In one particular incident in 2015, he lost $1.5 million at a slot machine in Las Vegas.

Daly's career started in 1987. In that same year, he won his first victory at the Missouri Open.

His two greatest on-course accomplishments were his "zero to hero" victory in the 1991 Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Championship and his playoff victory over Costantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.

He won many more awards in the years that followed. In addition to his wins in the U.S., Daly has won accredited pro events in South Africa, Swaziland, Scotland, Germany, South Korea, Turkey and Canada.

Aside from his gambling addiction, the golfer also reportedly struggled with alcohol and substance abuse in the past.

A report by The Guardian published in 2010 stated Daly was repeatedly fined and was given numerous PGA Tour orders to undergo counseling or enter alcohol rehabilitation centers over the years since his career started.

He was also cited numerous times for conduct unbecoming of a professional and "failing to give best efforts."

Among the reported misdemeanors of Daly include walking out of events and being filmed at the opening of a course wearing no shoes and no shirt as he played.

Despite the controversies involving Daly, he managed to succeed in multiple businesses.

He endorses Loudmouth Golf Apparel and owns a golf course design company called JD Designs. The company has designed courses in California, Ireland, Canada, Missouri and Arkansas.

In addition, Daly has written and recorded music, and he has even released two music albums.

His other business ventures include a wine label called John Daly Wines, but that one eventually went out of business.
