He was considered the prime front-runner for the Season 27 Mirrorball trophy on “Dancing With the Stars,” but following his shocking elimination during the semi-finals of the hit ABC show, “Fuller House” star Juan Pablo di pace is speaking out about what happened.

After an unexpected twist—which even saw the show’s judge’s panel reacting negatively to the news that Team Chernando was out of the competition after receiving two perfect scores—di Pace and partner Cheryl Burke spoke to Entertainment Tonight (see below) about their ouster, admitting that they felt they deserved to be in the finals.

“Yeah, I mean, you know, we wanted to go to the finals. At least the finals,” he told the website after the show. “I think we did [deserve to go to the finals].”

As for why the pair were eliminated during the double ouster—which also saw Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson leave the competition, both Juan Pablo and Cheryl admitted that it was possible their fans may have felt voting wasn’t necessary since they had racked up so many perfect scores and rave reviews from the judges.

“I think that we worked so bloody hard to get here, and also put on a show every Monday to wow, maybe that’s not what people want to see,” he said. “Or maybe they got comfortable?”

Burke also admitted that it could have been the lack of votes, but that fans may also be more passionate about seeing someone who had started the competition off on shaky ground develop over the course of the season, and that could have been why they didn’t receive enough votes to stay in it.

“It depends what happens,” she said. “People may want to see somebody with two left feet all of a sudden become a dancer. I don’t know, it’s different for everybody.”

“Dancing With the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
