The Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) could get a major piece back in the very near future. Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports reported on Tuesday that All-Pro safety Eric Berry reported to the Chiefs practice facility “with the intent” to practice this week.

Berry has not played in a game since week one of the 2017 season. He tore his Achilles in an upset victory over the New England Patriots and has not practiced at all this season due to a heel injury.

Paylor’s report mentioned that Berry is not certain to play this week against the Oakland Raiders (2-9). Whether Berry is not quite ready, or the team does not want to risk re-injury in a game they are heavy favorites to win, it seems he might not come back until next week’s home matchup with the Baltimore Ravens (6-5) at the earliest.

The Chiefs’ secondary has struggled, giving up the most passing yards per game in the NFL. Players like Eric Murray and Jordan Lucas have gotten increased snaps in Berry’s absence.
