  • Karim Benzema led the way for Real Madrid by scoring two goals in the win
  • This championship signals Zidane's 11th trophy with Real Madrid

After weeks of dominating the league, Real Madrid has finally emerged as this year’s La Liga champions. Most of their success can be attributed to how Karim Benzema once again stepped up for Zinedine Zidane.

With the games’ resumption after the coronavirus suspension, Los Blancos did not look back and steamrolled through the competition. This was emphasized during their deciding win against Villarreal as they showed excellent passing, ball control and excellent cohesiveness as a squad. The defense was on point while Benzema once again sparked the offense.

The 2-1 win sealed Real Madrid’s 34th La Liga championship for their club’s rich history. There’s no question that Benzema continues to be one of the team’s most reliable leaders given how he scored both goals in the victory. In his full-game performance, the four-time Champions League winner showed to the world his elite capabilities by scoring in the 29th and 77th minute.

Scoring has never been an issue for Benzema as this season alone he has played in 36 games and is second in the league with 21 goals. While Lionel Messi holds the top spot with 23 goals, Benzema and Real Madrid have constantly outperformed the struggling Barcelona.

Throughout Benzema’s career with Real Madrid, the 32-year-old has suited up for 511 appearances and has scored 248 goals to go along with 135 assists. Per The Real Champs, it was Benzema’s leadership that pushed the team in going all out and taking care of business in this monumental victory.

Given that Real Madrid reigns supreme over all of Spain, this adds to the long list of accomplishments Zidane has racked up for the organization. With 11 trophies for the club, Zidane has made a name for himself as a tactical specialist. The cerebral approach of Zidane coupled with elite talent such as Benzema gives the Santiago-Bernabeu based squad an edge only a few can match.

It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid will play in the coming years with stars such as Benzema still playing on top of their game. For now, the team is focused on finishing the remaining game against Leganes for a sweep of the post-suspension games.
