Kate Middleton received huge support from Prince Philip during her trial separation with Prince William.

In 2007, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge split after three years of dating. The said incident triggered a real concern in the palace that Middleton would be the next Camilla Parker Bowles because Prince Charles dated his current wife before he married and divorced Princess Diana.

Although Prince William and Middleton went separate lives, Katie Nicholl revealed in her 2010 book “William and Harry” how the Duke of Edinburgh supported the duchess at the time. Prince Philip reportedly assured Middleton that in due time his grandson would propose to her.

“While William partied, Kate received a message of support from Prince Philip,” Nicholl wrote.

“William will present a ring when the time is right. It was a well-intended reassurance that Kate valued,” the author added.

Prince Philip and Middleton share a good relationship. Back in September, they were spotted looking at each other while laughing. According to body language expert Judi James, even if Middleton and Prince Philip are two generations apart, both have a lot of similarities and could be “perfect partners in crime.”

James pointed out their genuine affection and said that both have the same sense of humor. In the snap, Middleton can be seen with her mouth fully open while laughing and this suggests that she found Prince Philip’s comments genuinely hilarious. On the other hand, Prince Philip threw an impish smile with his eyebrows raised and wide-eyed expression while pointing at Princess Charlotte.

Prince Philip showed the same support to Princess Diana amid the Prince and Princess of Wales’ rocky marriage. According to royal experts, the duke sent the People’s Princess letters and was sympathetic to her. In one letter, Prince Philip called his own son, Prince Charles, “silly” for leaving her for Camilla.

However, Princess Diana and Prince Philip’s relationship was also complex. Although Prince Philip supported Princess Diana for Prince Charles over Camilla, it was revealed that Prince Philip also tolerated Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair. Prince Philip reportedly encouraged Prince Charles to marry Princess Diana and get back with Camilla after five years should their marriage fail.
