Kate Middleton is lucky compared to Princess Diana.

The Duchess of Cambridge and the late Princess of Wales have some similarities. For one, both married a royal prince. Second, they were catapulted to the international limelight after joining the royal fold.

However, according to Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, Middleton is in a better position compared to her mother-in-law because the royal family gave her something that Princess Diana never had.

“Kate’s a very lucky woman because she has something which Diana never had,” Burrell said on Amazon Prime’s documentary “The Diana Story” pointing to the “love and support” she received from the royal family.

“With that strength behind her, she can go the distance. She can go all the way, she doesn’t need anything else,” he added.

Aside from this, Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s marriage wasn’t as smooth-sailing as Prince William and Middleton’s. The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding, but they shared a rocky relationship during their marriage.

Many believed that Prince Charles was in love with Camilla Parker Bowles when he married Princess Diana. According to royal biographer Robert Lacey in the documentary “Princes of the Palace,” if the Queen would blame someone for Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce, it would be her own son.

“If anything, I believe, that she and her husband Prince Philip put more of the blame on Prince Charles, and Prince Charles of course, as we since discovered, was already committed emotionally to another woman," Lacey said implying about Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s affair.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles only met a couple of times before they decided to get married. On the other hand, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dated for years before Prince William proposed to Middleton.

According to royal author Katie Nicholl, Prince William was adamant in marrying Middleton. He didn’t want to be pressured and to be hurried to the altar. He knew how Prince Charles was pressured into marrying his mom, Princess Diana, because she was the perfect bride.

Prince William saw how his parents’ marriage collapsed. He witnessed their argument and bickering and didn’t want to endure the same experience. So, he didn’t rush into marrying Middleton.
