  • Liverpool will take on Inter Milan in UCL on Wednesday
  • Liverpool's Luis Diaz is eligible to play in the UCL game
  • Diaz moved from Porto to Liverpool during the January window

Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Liverpool FC's newest signing, Luis Diaz. He says "I never had a player like this."

While being on international duty with Colombia, Diaz signed with Liverpool on the deadline day of the winter transfer window (Jan. 31). The former Porto forward made his Reds debut in their FA Cup clash with Cardiff earlier this month. He set up Takumi Minamino's goal in Liverpool's 3-1 win.

Diaz featured in the starting XI on his Premier League debut during Liverpool's 2-0 win over Leicester City at Anfield.

Ahead of Liverpool's Champions League Round of 16 first leg game against Inter Milan on Wednesday, Liverpool confirmed that Diaz was eligible to play the game in Italy.

In a pre-match interview, Klopp heaped praise on Diaz, saying the club is happy to have him, before adding that he believes that "it will be a really nice story with Luis at Liverpool."

"He's a top boy, a top-class player. He showed that already in two appearances he had for us now. The last game he didn't come on. Like it is for a new player, you have to get used to different things in the team. We have all other players fit so they know exactly what I want from them. We give Luis a little bit more time to adapt to it, but he is an incredible player," Klopp said on Liverpool's official website.

Diaz attracted attention from various clubs when he finished as the join-highest scorer at the Copa America 2021 with Lionel Messi. Diaz won a treble with Porto in the 2019-20 season, the same campaign that saw Liverpool win their maiden Premier League title.

"His joy and love for football is so obvious. When you see him training, he cannot stop smiling. I've never had a player like this, it's crazy. We are so, so happy to have him here, it's absolutely great. We expect a lot from him in the future; now already but in the future as well. I have a good feeling it will be a really nice story with Luis at Liverpool," added Klopp in the same interview.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold wants his side to win one trophy a season at least.

"We don't feel disappointed that we haven't got enough trophies. I'm not making any digs, but you look at Man City's amazing team, they haven't been able to lift the Champions League. There's an expectation now. One trophy a season minimum," the right-back said ahead of Liverpool's clash with Inter Milan, Goal reported.

Liverpool are placed second in the 2021-22 Premier League table. The Reds are nine points behind table-toppers Manchester City but Klopp's side has a game in hand. Meanwhile, in the Champions League, Liverpool are unbeaten in the ongoing season. They won all their six group games and will look to carry the momentum into the Round of 16 as well.
