On Tuesday, various media reports suggested that Mbappe felt "betrayed" at PSG and that he informed the club about his decision to leave during the winter window in January.

Ahead of the 2022-23 season, Mbappe turned down a move to Real Madrid, after months of speculations about his PSG future, and instead signed a new three-year lucrative deal with the Ligue 1 club. But PSG's sporting director Luis Campos said the 23-year-old "never talked about leaving" the club in January, according to BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, Spanish sports journalist Mario Cortegana, who has a credible record in European soccer, claimed Messi's increasing influence could be one of the reasons behind the French forward's sudden desire to move on from the PSG project, Goal reported.

Mbappe, who has scored 30+ goals in each of the seasons since the 2018-19 campaign, has continued his sublime form for PSG. He has already netted 13 goals in 13 competitive games for PSG in the ongoing campaign, including four goals in as many games in the Champions League. PSG are unbeaten in the 2022-23 season and are at the top of both Ligue 1 and Champions League Group H.
