  • Mbappe has now agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly been offered a chance to become the highest-paid soccer player in the world by Real Madrid.

Mbappe’s current deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is due to expire in the 2022 summer and the Frenchman has decided to not sign an extension. Mbappe has agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid and will move to the Spanish capital as a free agent at the end of the season, reported BILD.

Real Madrid have offered a contract worth $56 million per year before tax, making him the highest-paid soccer player in the world, based on wages alone, according to Marca.com. Los Blancos’ offer would see the 25-year-old Mbappe earn more than two times of his current salary at PSG.

Mbappe’s current yearly wages at PSG are $29 million and he stands third in the list of highest earners at the Ligue 1 club, according to Salarysport.com.

During the 2021 summer transfer window, PSG had rejected Real Madrid’s repeated attempts to sign Mbappe. While the Paris side was hopeful of convincing the talented forward to stay, it is believed that the player had made up his mind of seeing through his contract at PSG before joining Real Madrid.

Real Madrid were willing to pay $226 million for Mbappe last summer but PSG did not respond to the bid.

"The state-owned clubs don’t sell their players. It’s a madness. Now we offer €200m for a single player and they don't sell him. When players finish their contract it's better," Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez later complained about PSG’s refusal to sell Mbappe.

PSG and Real Madrid have been drafted to face off each other in the Champions League Round of 16 fixture. The first leg is due to take place later this month in Paris, while the return leg is going to be played in March in Madrid. Any announcement regarding Mbappe’s deal will be made only after the completion of the Madrid fixture.

In the 2021-22 season, Mbappe has netted 19 goals and 16 assists in 29 appearances for PSG across all competitions. He did not start PSG's Round of 16 game in the Coupe de France on Monday, which his side lost on penalties to OGC Nice.
