  • A reliable Apple tipster recently claimed that the iPhone 12 Pro would feature 120 Hz ProMotion display
  • The iPhone 12 is anticipated to launch sometime in Sept 2020
  • But, a display analyst seems to disagree with the recent iPhone 12 leak

A few days ago, several tech sites reported that the next generation flagship smartphone series from Apple might be equipped with a major display feature. Based on a recent leak, the iPhone 12 would reportedly feature a 120 Hz ProMotion display. However, a display analyst recently claimed that the leak might not happen after all.

Reliable tech sleuth Max Weinbach recently claimed that the iPhone 12 might ship with a 120 Hz ProMotion display. The tipster said that the standard iPhone 12 model might maintain the 60 Hz display refresh rate. However, the iPhone 12 could have a feature that allows the model to switch between 60 Hz and 120 Hz ProMotion display.

The recent iPhone 12 leak sounds interesting, but Display Analyst Ross Young refuted it. In a recent tweet, the display analyst disagreed with Weinbach and claimed that the only smartphone this year features the LTPO display is the heavily speculated Samsung Note 20 Plus. He later said that the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 Plus is the only smartphone arriving in 2020 that could feature 120 Hz LTPO.

The analyst explained that “for 120Hz, you need LTPO, which enables variable refresh so you can operate at 1Hz-120Hz and optimize battery life. Only one flagship phone will have LTPO.” Young said that the Cupertino-based tech giant would not equip its flagship iPhone series until 2021.

For the uninitiated, LTPO is a technology essential so developers could introduce the 120 Hz ProMotion on the iPhone’s display. “About Display Technology. With LTPO, you can vary the display refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz based on the content. In always on mode, 1Hz. In gaming modes, 120Hz. Big power advantage for Samsung. Apple won’t have LTPO until 2021.” Young further clarified.

It is worth mentioning, however, that the iPad Pro features a ProMotion display without the LTPO technology since 2018. While it could contradict the analyst’s statement, at this point, it is difficult to conclude anything. Apple has been introducing new technology and features in the smartphone industry since its arrival. It is safe to assume that it is capable of shipping ProMotion to the iPhone 12 series along with several other features.
