LEGO’s latest block set launch looks to conjure up a bit of the 1980s with a retro video game set – the Atari 2600 gaming console.

Considered one of the most famous video game consoles of all time, the Atari 2600 will be released as a LEGO set in celebration of Atari’s 50th anniversary. The Atari 2600 was released in 1980 as a four-switch version of the video gaming console that was first introduced in 1977.

The LEGO set will offer fans the ability to build the console brick-by-brick with a joystick controller that was designed to “feel just like the original,” the toymaker said. The Atari set also has a pop-up screen from the '80s gaming room and includes the three popular video game cartridges -– Asteroids, Adventure and Centipede.

With 2,532 pieces included in the set, the Atari gaming console, once fully built, stands over 3-inches high, 13-inches wide, and 8.5-inches deep, LEGO said.

LEGO Atari video game console designer Chris McVeigh, a lifelong Atari fan, said in a statement, “The Atari 2600 was one of the most memorable gifts I got as a kid. I recall spending hours and hours in front of the TV, absolutely amazed that I could play arcade games in my own home.”

He continued by saying, “We hope that building this classic console takes you back to those halcyon days when a handful of pixels meant a world of adventure.”
