NBC has released the official synopsis for "Law & Order" Season 18, episode 1. NBC

“Law & Order: SVU” Season 18 has released new details about the premiere episode, and the NBC show will kick things off with an intense and action-packed opener.

The first episode of “Law & Order: SVU” Season 18 will see the special victims unit teaming up with another task force to find a terrorist. The synopsis also hints that there might be conflict between Lt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Barba (Raúl Esparza) in the upcoming premiere when she urges the latter to help a woman who claims that she was assaulted and tortured.

“A young boy is found wandering alone in Central Park and the search for his parents leads to startling evidence of a planned mass casualty event in the city. As the SVU works with the joint-terrorism task force to find the suspects and the motive, Lt. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) must also convince Barba (Raúl Esparza) to address allegations of rape and torture the boy’s mother discloses,” reads the synopsis released by NBC (via CarterMatt).

Meanwhile, Hargitay previously shared a photo of United States Vice-President Joe Biden’s cameo in “Law & Order: SVU" Season 18. The teaser photo shows Biden, who plays an active role in the campaign against domestic violence in real life, and Hargitay filming a scene together. The actress did not share which episode Biden will appear in, but based on the politician’s advocacies, he will most likely make a cameo in an episode tackling domestic violence.

Shortly after posting the teaser, Hargitay praised Biden, tweeting (via CarterMatt), “The depth of [Biden’s] integrity, commitment, and leadership has come to mean so much to me, to our community, and to survivors. There are no words for [his] commitment on these issues. I am so very fortunate to be able to call him my friend.”

This is not the first time Biden has made an appearance on a scripted show. He previously had a cameo role in NBC’s “Parks and Recreations.”

Find out what happens when “Law & Order: SVU” Season 18 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EDT on NBC.
