The semi-final of the League Cup will be played across two legs. Steve Cooper's Forest side will host the first leg against Manchester United at City Ground on Jan. 24. The return leg will be played at Old Trafford on Jan. 31.

Manchester United won the League Cup trophy back in the 2016-17 season under Jose Mourinho. It was the last season the Red Devils had won silverware as they even won the Europa League.

Manchester United, a five-time League Cup winner, had defeated Nottingham Forest in the final in 1992.

The 3-0 victory over Charlton marked the team's eighth consecutive win in all competitions. It was also Erik ten Hag's 20th win since taking Manchester United's charge in the summer of 2022. It made Ten Hag the quickest Red Devils boss to reach the landmark, even beating legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United will go into the first leg of the League Cup semi-final as the favorites to win the fixture as the side is in reasonably good form. They have triumphed in 20 out of their 27 games this season across competitions and have kept 14 clean sheets.

The other semi-final of the League Cup will be played between Southampton and Newcastle United.

Despite being at the bottom of the Premier League table, Southampton shocked Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in their quarter-final meeting Wednesday. In what turned out to be the biggest win of head coach Nathan Jones since his arrival at St. James' Park this season, his side netted two goals against the eight-time League Cup winners.

France's 20-year-old forward Sekou Mara's fine finish after 23 minutes put Southampton 1-0 up. Five minutes later, Malian forward Moussa Djenepo caught Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega out of position off his line and lofted a long-range finish to make it 2-0 for the Saints.
